We wanted to spend today featuring our incredible team, most of whom work on the frontlines at your local hospital and then come after work to serve on the frontlines at Neighborhood Clinic to provide care for our patients! Every month, we feature a Volunteer of the Month – someone whose outstanding contributions to the Neighborhood Clinic community are worthy of all kinds of acknowledgements and honor!
We’re celebrating the past several volunteers of the month who’ve made significant contributions to the clinic during the pandemic. Our goal is to get 100 donations in honor of these amazing volunteers. Would you consider giving a $5 gift in honor of our volunteers?
We asked each volunteer of the month what their favorite thing is about Neighborhood Clinic.
Helen is a nurse (RN): “The people! My favorite thing about the clinic is getting to spend time and work with such a passionate, supportive, and fun family of volunteers who are all committed to helping our community.”
Dr. Craddock is a physician: “I love being able to provide care to the underprivileged. Thanks for allowing me to do that!”
Charlotte is a social worker: “I have so many things I love about volunteering here, but mainly that everyone has so much energy and passion for what they do, and that our patients are so gracious and diverse. I learn something new here every night!”
Rose is a medical assistant and phlebotomist: “You meet so many different kinds of people from all over the world when you volunteer in a free clinic. At the end of a shift…… the stories, smiles, hugs and tears that we share with these patients (despite language barriers) are priceless. Love and kindness are universal and cost nothing.”
Nikole is a medical scribe: “My favorite thing about the clinic is how many people we get to help. It is amazing how every clinic night, whether it be 3 people or 20, we always find ways to provide the best possible care for all who seek it. I also LOVE the other volunteers and getting to meet new people, build relationships, and overall be part of this amazing community.”
Becky is a nurse practitioner: “I was homeless as a teen but managed to graduate from high school and join the Navy. I used my college money from the military to get an education and become a NP. I love the neighborhood clinic because I get to help people in their time of need. Often I get to see people who were just like me. I use that time with the patient to connect with them and tell them that they can make it through because I am living proof of it. The team of volunteers that show up each clinic night is the absolute best. I love our clinic and what we do for this community. I work at the VA and take care of home bound elderly Veterans (often WW2, Korean War, Vietnam vets) and it is the greatest job in the world! On my off time I climb mountains with homeless people who are in alcohol and drug recovery programs at our local shelters. I get to partner up with these incredible people who are climbing the mountain of addiction while actually climbing mountains. I feel like the luckiest person in the world.”
Eric is a Forensic Autopsy Technician: “My favorite thing about the Neighborhood Clinic is the people. All the volunteers at the Neighborhood Clinic are amazing and I look forward to seeing them even after a busy day at work. Listening and interacting with patients has also taught me a lot about my community. I feel like I’m making a real impact when I volunteer at the Neighborhood Clinic and look forward to many more clinic nights!”
Winston is a physician assistant (PA): “My favorite thing about the clinic is the amazing spirit that everyone brings in each night!”
