What Neighborhood Clinic is doing to fight COVID-19
As a free urgent care, Neighborhood Clinic exists to keep patients out of the emergency department by addressing urgent medical concerns and any chronic concerns that may become urgent due to neglect. During the pandemic, Neighborhood Clinic staff have been working tirelessly to prepare the clinic for utmost safety and protection for volunteers and patients. We’ve ordered ample cleaning supplies to be able to deep clean each exam room between patients and wipe down every surface in the clinic. We’ve received PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment: masks, goggles, gloves, gowns) and continue to order more as they become available to ensure adequate protection for each volunteer and staff. We’ve changed our clinic flow to safely test for COVID-19 at the door and minimize contact between providers and patients.
We’re continuing to provide healthcare services, labs, x-rays, prescription medications, adult vaccines, and now COVID-19 test kits all at no cost to patients. With increased fear and anxiety in the community, particularly around healthcare issues, we’re spending more staff hours responding to the pandemic — writing clinical policies and procedures, fielding questions from the community, following up with patients remotely when possible, and keeping up to date on the ever-evolving announcements from the CDC and Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department — all while continuing to offer our usual medical services and referrals to primary care providers and specialists. With unemployment increasing, Neighborhood Clinic is committed to staying open to care for the vulnerable and keep hospitals from being even more overpopulated.
